a two day workshop with Bristol artist Nick Moore

‘Painting is like a thundering collision of different worlds that are destined in and through conflict to create that new world called the work.’

Kandinsky

Nick presents a weekend workshop of drawing and painting to explore ideas of the apparently opposing forces of structure and chaos. It will be a broad based enquiry embracing the use of symmetry, form and uncertainty, geometry and gesture…

Through structured exercises, alongside time for individual working, we will explore the richness and versatility, depth and subtlety of the paradox that lies in the tensions between structure and chaos, while engaging in a variety of mark making techniques and materials.

An illustrated talk will be given as part of our enquiry.

No previous artistic experience is required.

Cost: £130 (£115 conc.)

a summer workshop facilitated by John Playfoot

“I knew that in finding the mandala as an expression of the self I had obtained what was for me the ultimate. Perhaps someone else knows more but not I.

C. G. Jung

There are almost endless manifestations of the mandala. In this workshop, we will focus on key elements that give the mandala a relevance to our own life experience. We will be working individually and in small groups using a variety of media including wax crayons, found objects and the technique of oil rubbing.

John Playfoot is a practising artist and art therapist. He also teaches and runs workshops. He has been researching mandalas and working therapeutically with them for a number of years.
